History

The Skyline Conservation Initiative was founded in 2002 by Danny & Buck Boren of Skyline Eco Adventures as a way to give back and rehabilitate the native environment along Pōhakuokalā Gulch, where Skyline’s original zipline tour operates. This land restoration work has expanded from a 1-acre enclosure first built to keep cattle out to what is now: a 46-acre protected zone which has been planted with over 20,000 native trees and shrubs from 32 site-appropriate species. The area serves as an outdoor classroom for students from across the island, Maui community groups, and visitors who take part in Skyline Haleakalā Zipline Tour. Skyline Conservation Initiative is currently involved in multiple landscape conservation programs across Maui Nui and has developed a robust conservation field worker training program so that it can continue to add capacity to support the critical native habitat conservation needs of these islands we call home.
